The Student Awareness of Fire Education Program (SAFE) was adopted by Belmont in 1996. It is sponsored by the State Department of Fire Services and provides age-appropriate curriculum that trained firefighter-instructors are able to present to elementary school students regarding fire and life safety issues. Each year our SAFE instructors provide valuable safety lessons that have resulted in five Belmont students being recognized by the Department of Fire Services and Belmont Fire Department with “Young hero Awards” Senior SAFE is a similar program that has curriculum to assist older adults with fire and life safety concerns. The BFD partners with the Council on Aging to provide regularly scheduled classes and support for older Belmont residents.
