Belmont Fire Chief Graduates from Chief Fire Officer Management Training

BELMONT –  Belmont Fire Chief David DeStefano was a member of the most recent graduating class from the Chief Fire Officer Management Training Program. 

On Friday, Jan. 27, Chief DeStefano was one of 37 students to graduate from this program. The graduation took place at 10 a.m. at the Department of Fire Services, 1 State Road, Stow. 

The Chief Fire Officer Management Training Program is designed to provide new chief officers with a variety of leadership and management skills essential in municipal management. The information and case histories covered are pertinent to Massachusetts municipal government.

The topics covered included leadership, administrative structure, communication skills, budget and financial skills, supervision and management, community and intergovernmental relations, emergency management, logic, ethics and decision-making, comprehensive safety and health programs, fire and life safety and more. 

The program is a very competitive, highly demanding capstone course in the DFS’ Fire Officer training track. Preference is given to Officers that have demonstrated their commitment to professional development. 

“Chief DeStefano has enhanced his skill set even further by participating in this esteemed program,” Town Manager Patrice Garvin said. “I would like to congratulate him on this accomplishment, and I am looking forward to the positive impact the skills he developed will have on the Belmont Fire Department and our community as a whole.”
