Belmont Fire Department Extinguishes Two-Alarm House Fire

BELMONT – Chief David DeStefano reports that the Belmont Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire on Beech Street.

On Saturday, Feb. 4, at about 4:30 a.m., Belmont firefighters responded to reports of a fire in a home on Beech Street. First-arriving crews discovered fire coming from the roof of a multi-story structure. Six occupants of the home escaped unharmed.

Belmont firefighters, with the assistance of mutual aid partners from the Arlington Fire Department, Cambridge Fire Department, Waltham Fire Department, and Watertown Fire Department brought the fire under control in about one hour.

Extensive overhaul operations were required to check for hot spots. The top floor of the home was heavily damaged by fire.

“Extreme cold creates additional challenges in fighting a fire, and this fire was no exception,“ Chief DeStefano said. “I wish to commend our firefighters for their terrific work and professionalism in below-zero temperatures and minus-35 wind chill, and especially our mutual aid partners for their timely response and support.”
