To pay tribute to all those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks on America 20 years ago Belmont
firefighters will wear a special memorial badge during the month of September. Fire Chief David
DeStefano states that “firefighters purchased these badges on their own as a way of paying respect
for those killed in the attacks and to show the families that were left behind that we will never forget
the sacrifices made that day. Many firefighters and others who worked in the rescue and recovery
operation are afflicted with all types of illnesses and suffer to this day as a result of their efforts to
help during that emergency. I am proud to authorize this special badge for use by our firefighters
during the month of September.”
